Position Overview

Primary Purpose of the Position

The Reference/Instruction Librarian will work in a team-based environment and serve as the primary library contact for all students, faculty, and staff in the School of Health Sciences, providing outreach, instruction, course materials, in-depth reference assistance, and collection development services.
The School of Health Sciences includes the Division of Nursing, Exercise Physiology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Healthcare Administration, Clinical Laboratory Science, and Rehabilitation Counseling.

Position required to work during periods of adverse weather or other emergencies No
Normal Work Schedule

Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Some nights and week-end may be required.

• Familiarity with concepts and goals of information literacy;
• Provide an engaging, approachable, and service-oriented experience to library patrons at public services desk.
• Ability to demonstrate by experience or coursework to learn and apply new technologies for the delivery of instruction and research services commitment to student success;
• Ability to organize, prioritize, meet deadlines, perform multiple tasks simultaneously;
• Capacity to solve problems, work effectively with all levels of personnel
• Knowledge of a range of software, hardware, and web-based tools
• Contribute effectively to team efforts; and demonstrated excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

• 1-2 years experience in a library.
• Experience teaching library instruction classes in an academic environment;
• Experience consulting with instructors and other academic support staff related to course and assignment design; experience creating instructional and information materials such as online tutorials, surveys, and guides;
• Experience assessing the learning outcomes of library instruction classes;
• Familiarity using Blackboard or other course management software;
• Demonstrated problem solving, decision making, negotiation, leadership skills.
• Background or interest in issues related to education
Excellent customer service and organizational skills are necessary for public service assignments; the individual must be able to work with a diverse population.

• Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library or information science program;

Receive, solicit and schedule instructional sessions from faculty members and students; select and assign the best librarian for each session; schedule classroom and notify teaching assistant of technical needs.
